One of my childhood hobbies was to collect currency from the different countries that I visited. While my family lived in Germany for years, I had the opportunity to travel to other European countries and save some of my leftover money as a keepsake.
As an adult, I find it difficult to save and keep any of my own American dollars. Growing up, my parents said those five famous words that I’m sure many parents still say today:”Money doesn’t grow on trees.” Although I know that to be true, why do I still struggle to be at peace with how much I have and how much I spend? This question has been on my mind, continuously, for the past few years.
It doesn’t help that I’m a dreamer. The more I envision the life I want to have, the more I realize that the clock is ticking and time is running out. Don’t get me wrong, I still have a full life ahead of me, but if I want to achieve the life of comfort (not wealth, but comfort) that I desire for myself and my future children, I need to get the ball rolling by planning, preparing, and acting. In other words, I need to put more money in the bank!
After sitting with this thought for about a week, I realized that one of the smartest ways to accomplish this dream of living comfortably is to have multiple streams of income. In a world where the economy is always a topic of concern, the costs of basic living and breathing are rising, and people are waiting longer to retire, it seems as though it is no longer optional to earn extra money on the side; it’s absolutely necessary.
But that’s not something that I am accustomed to – I don’t know anyone in my immediate or extended family who has ever done this, which could be considered a hindrance. I don’t even have friends who operate this way, which is sad. If I’m going to be knowledgeable of this subject, it’s going to take me doing research. (Praise God for a good ol’ Google search!)
I’m still at the beginning stages, but I feel convicted about this pursuit. This will be an ongoing process, but I’m confident that it will be a successful one. The first step, though, is research, research, research! Since I don’t have a current network to surround myself around, I figured I would create one on my blog. I’d love for you to join me in this learning and growing experience of accruing multiple streams of income!
I have included some of the initial sites that I’ve glanced over thus far. Take a look and share your thoughts!
