Vote for Inner Peace in a World of Chaos

The United States’ presidential elections will be here soon.  Like waiting for some gut-wrenching results from the doctor’s office, we Americans wait with anxiety and fear, as if this outcome will lead to some sort of conclusion to what’s been happening.  Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you are keenly aware of the atrocities that are occurring in our political system.  I often wake up saying to myself, I can’t believe this silliness.

That’s not all of it.  As a morning CNN viewer, I am often plagued with sadness when I hear about yet another police-involved shooting or an infringement on the human rights of anyone who calls this place home. It’s enough to drive you mad.

Lately, I find my days to be filled with a roller coaster of emotions: When the things beyond my control are calm, I’m calm.  When they’re shaken, so am I.  And with so much access to other people’s feelings on social media, I become sucked into scrolling through more emotional drainage if I allow myself.

Sometimes, I just want to run and hide from all the bad in the world.  But I can’t.  It’s unavoidable – or is it?

Well, I am a firm believer in finding one’s inner peace.  I believe that everyone possesses it, and we must be on a constant pursuit to ensure that we maintain it, despite all the chaos around us. During this time of madness in the United States, it’s no different.

Marianne Williamson’s quote on inner peace says it perfectly:

Ego says, “Once everything falls into place, I’ll feel peace.”
Spirit says, “Find your peace, and then everything will fall into place.”

Friends, the reality is that we don’t know what will happen next whether in our lives or in the world, so we shouldn’t wait for it in order to feel better.  Feelings are what you make of them. Therefore, we can choose to live with fear and wait for a peace, or we can live with peace and overcome the fear.  Which one gives you more control?

So vote for your own peace right now. Declare yourself as the winner of your soul – your thoughts, feelings, and actions. Begin by turning off the news (myself included), closing the social media pages, and re-calibrating your mind.  Take back your emotions and jump off of that roller coaster today!

  1. Good stuff. I was perplexed thinking something is wrong with me for years because I found it difficult to adapt my feeling or accept that its ok for my brain to be on scramble, when everyone appears to adept well to the worldly chaos.

My close friends and some family have for sure made me feel low about my opinion on the damaging effects of not just social media but character damaging t.v shows, the over exposure to information that resides either in your pocket or in or hand.

I struggle honestly with trying not to be fearful or even think about what the future holds…its almost like we’re turning into the walking dead. I often say that we were not created to so included in other people’s lives. People including myself have been tossed to and fro with so many different opinions that’s retrieved from bad media. It will soon be a must that people find their inner peace somehow, someway. If not I truly believe we will self-destruct.
